Broadcaster Sony Entertainment Television Ltd and their show Shark Tank India has reportedly been served a notice alongside two of their participants by a Kashmir-based cricket manufacturing company which is seeking INR 500 crore in damages.

According to a report in Inc42.com, Alfa Sports & Co have delivered a legal notice to Shark Tank India for entertaining cofounders of Tramboo Sports Pvt Ltd, Saad Tramboo and Hamad Tramboo, in their show in the episode that aired on January 30, 2024.

In their pitching in the show, Saad and Hamad Tramboo claimed that they have the sole manufacturing capabilities for “lite willow” bats and that they have the technology to bring Kashmir willows at par with the English willows, which Alfa Sports says is nothing new.

Participants in Shark Tank India have allegedly breached vendor contract with Kashmir-based bat supplier

Peyush Bansal, the Lenskart co-founder and CEO, and boAt co-founder Aman Gupta together invested in Tramboo Sports, committing INR 30 Lakh for a 4% equity stake.

However, Alfa Sports claims that Tramboo Sports have been roping in bats from them for a while. With them getting recognition on national television, Alfa Sports said they and vendors in Kashmir have lost some trust and confidence from their buyers, and thus they seek INR 500 crore as compensation from Shark Tank India and Tramboo Sports.

Fawazul Kabir, a spokesperson for the Cricket Bat Manufacturers Association of Kashmir (CBMAK), told Inc42, “We are going to take this case to criminal court if Sony TV and Tramboo Sports do not tender an immediate apology on national TV to hardworking cricket bat manufacturers of the valley. What was most astonishing was that Alfa Sports which was one of the vendors of Tramboo Sports was directly selling them the bats and Alfa has the invoices to show for this. This is a breach of vendor contract.

The notice that has been sent by Alfa Sports read,  “In reality, there are around 400 manufacturing units across the indigenous industry in the valley. Due to the false claims made by Tramboo Sports co-founders, the original manufacturer has witnessed loss in business confidence, dip in sales and his exports have taken a hit.”
