Defending champions Chennai Super Kings had a major change in guard two days ahead of the 2022 edition of the Indian Premier League, with MS Dhoni handing over the reins of the team to Ravindra Jadeja. Ever since the news came out, several former cricketers including the likes of Virender Sehwag, Suresh Raina, Virat Kohli, and many others, have reacted to the bombshell announcement.
Joining the bandwagon, former England captain Kevin Pietersen is not at all surprised with star all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja taking over the reins of the most consistent IPL side in history. Pietersen feels that Jadeja is another cool head who will make good decisions as the captain of CSK in IPL 2022.
KP hailed Jadeja as an outstanding thinker and also lauded him for his cricketing skills. He said:
“They’ve obviously decided that the time is right to move on from MS Dhoni, but it doesn’t surprise me that they have turned to Ravi Jadeja another cool head who will make good decisions. Jadeja is an outstanding thinker and a very experienced T20 player, so CSK have a good chance of surprising everybody again,”
MSD knew that he is on the brink of his career and Jadeja, who is at the peak of his prowess, is all set for the big challenge. Jadeja was also the number one retention ahead of the mega-auction.
The decision has left everyone shocked, considering how well Dhoni had led the side last year, eventually lifting the title. However, MS Dhoni has a habit of shocking people with his sudden decisions.
Further, talking about CSK’s stint in the IPL 2022, Kevin Pietersen said: “CSK proved everybody wrong last season, including myself. There is some young blood coming through there, but they seem to have realised that having cool, experienced heads making decisions is going to give them an edge over everybody else. There are so many small decisions to make during a T20 match and if you get more right than the opposition, then you will generally win.”
Well, it is yet to be seen how will Jadeja fit into the role as captain of Chennai Super Kings. Ravindra Jadeja will lead CSK in the opening clash match against Kolkata Knight Riders tonight at the Wankhede Stadium.
