Just like the IPL did with numerous uncapped men’s players, the Women’s Premier League (WPL)is set to become the breeding ground for several uncapped women’s players to showcase their talent and fulfill their dreams.

One such is UP Warriorz batsman Kiran Navgire. 28-year-old Kiran Navgire is already a famous name among the followers of women’s cricket, known for her explosive six-hitting abilities and her powerful batting.

On her WPL 2023 debut, Kiran Navgire hammered 53 (43) against Gujarat Giants in a game which the UP Warriorz won by 3 wickets on the penultimate ball of their chase of 170 runs as Australia’s Grace Harris powered them over the victory line with her sensational knock of 59* (26).

But it was Kiran Navgire whose half-century kept UP alive in the chase after the fall of 3 early wickets in the powerplay. The right-handed batter smashed 5 fours and 2 sixes in her entertaining innings.

Kiran Navgire played 6 T20Is for India last year

She is perhaps the most powerful hitter among Indian women’s batters.

During her innings, the Nagaland batsman Kiran Navgire batted with a sponsorless bat, but which got attention as it had MSD 07 written on it.

Kiran Navgire is a big fan of MS Dhoni

As she monstered through her match-winning innnings, an old video of her in an interview with the website Women’s CricZone went viral where she spoke about how MS Dhoni’s 91* in the 2011 World Cup final – and in particular, MS Dhoni’s World Cup winning six in the final – drew her to cricket.

“Cricket to pata bhi nahi tha jab Dhoni sir ko follow kar rahi thi. I didn’t know much about the World Cup 2011, where it was happening or if India were in the final. I was a kid then and hardly had any idea about the game. So, the game was being watched at my home also. I asked my brothers about it and they said it’s the World Cup final and India playing against Sri Lanka,” Navgire said in the interview.

“The innings he [MS Dhoni] played and the six he hit to finish the game; those things still impress me. I also wish to hit sixes like him. If I’m batting, irrespective of the innings, six maarne se mujhe bahut confidence aata hai (if I hit a six, it gives me immense confidence), and I feel that I’ll score good runs. Isiliye best hain wo (That’s why Dhoni is best),” she added.
