After being asked to bat first, KKR started their innings on a sensational note, all thanks to Phil Salt’s explosive innings of 48 runs, setting the stage for a formidable total at the Eden Gardens. Eventually, it was captain Shreyas Iyer who smashed a half-century and he was supported by Rinku Singh at the other end, who contributed with 24 runs, that steadied the innings.
Ramandeep Singh (24*) and Andre Russell (27*) further contributed to the total in the later overs, ensuring a strong finish for the Kolkata-based franchise. KKR posted a total of 222 runs on the scoreboard. For RCB, Cameron Green stood out with bowling as he returned with the figures of 2/35.
Chasing the total, Royal Challengers Bangalore encountered a shaky start, losing both openers, including former skipper Virat Kohli, for just 18 and 7 runs respectively, within the powerplay.
After the early setbacks, Will Jacks (55) and Rajat Patidar (52) staged a remarkable comeback for Royal Challengers Bangalore with their aggressive half-centuries. The duo’s partnership of 102 runs for the third wicket kept RCB in contention. However, KKR made a strong comeback, resulting in the collapse of RCB’s batting lineup.
Despite a valiant effort from Suryaash Prabhudessai (24), RCB found themselves in a precarious position at 155 for six. Dinesh Karthik made a spirited attempt to steer his team to victory, but his efforts fell short. Karn Sharma’s late flourish with the bat revived hopes for RCB fans, but in the end, Bangalore narrowly missed the target, falling short by just 1 run.
