KL Rahul has been superb as a wicket-keeper in the ongoing World Cup 2023. Whether it is through his catching, stumping, or helping Rohit Sharma with the DRS, KL Rahul has been making crucial contributions. Despite being a non-regular keeper, Rahul’s performance in the World Cup has been sensational with the gloves.
Against Sri Lanka, he saved a certain boundary off the bowling of Jasprit Bumrah by putting across an excellent, athletic dive to his left side.
Sri Lanka’s chase of a huge target of 358 runs had started off in a dismal fashion as Jasprit Bumrah got Pathum Nissanka lbw out on the first ball of the innings with an outswinger. On the next ball, Bumrah produced his variation – the one that swung and moved into the right-hander.
However, he overdid it a bit and the ball went down the legside of right-hander Kusal Mendis. While Mendis tried to flick it, he completely missed the ball. But KL Rahul didn’t. The India wicket-keeper put in a superb dive, stretching his body to the full extent to collect the ball with only his left hand. Even as KL Rahul tumbled he didn’t let go of the ball. Rahul got appreciation from the India skipper Rohit Sharma for his excellent save of a boundary.
