The BCCI has shortlisted 20 players who will be part of the 2023 Men’s World Cup.  The meeting was attended by BCCI chief Roger Binny, BCCI Secretary Jay Shah, Indian captain Rohit Sharna, head coach Rahul Dravid, NCA head of cricket VVS Laxman, and chief selector Chetan Sharma. At the review meeting on the performance of Indian cricket, the BCCI shortlisted 20 players and decided that these players will be rotated so that proper preparation is ensured before the 2023 World Cup, which will be held in India.

“BCCI has shortlisted 20 players who will be rotated till the 50 overs World Cup,” Jay Shah revealed to reporters after BCCI’s review meeting.

Among the many decisions taken, BCCI said that the National Cricket Academy (NCA) will “work in tandem with the IPL Franchisee to monitor the targeted Indian players participating in the IPL 2023”, emphasizing the unit as the nodal center for the fitness of Indian players.

Meanwhile, popular commentator and cricket analyst Harsha Bhogle took to his social media and predicted the list of 20 players shortlisted by the BCCI. He tweeted: “I would imagine this is the core that selectors & team management would work with: Rohit,Rahul,Gill, Virat, Shreyas,Ishan,Rishabh,Sky, Samson,Pandya, Axar,Jadeja, Washington, Kuldeep, Chahal, Bumrah, Shami, Arshdeep, Prasidh, Siraj, Shardul. This is 21. My next 2: Patidar & Umran”

The tweet went viral and was soon flooded with reactions from fans to it. Among many, former Indian Test cricketer Laxman Sivaramakrishnan also took to his twitter and expressed his thoughts on Bhogle’s Tweet. In his Tweet, Laxman opined that KL Rahul should play domestic cricket for a while. He also highlighted the weak points of KL Rahul. He wrote:

“K.L. Rahul should play domestic cricket for a while. He is only opener I have seen has weakness for inside edge and outside edge”

It has to be noted that Indian opener KL Rahul has been under the radar of critics off lately. He didn’t have a great time in 2022 as he was seen struggling to score runs. He managed 137 runs in Tests, 251 runs in ODIs, and 434 runs in T20Is. Due to his poor performances, he was recently replaced by Hardik Pandya as Rohit’s deputy in the ODI format of the game. He has been demoted from his position and is now reduced to the position of wicketkeeper-batsman, though.
