How Lokesh Kumar Went From Swiggy Delivery Guy To The Netherlands Cricket Team's Net Bowler
In the ever-unpredictable game of life, remarkable stories often unfold when you least expect them. One such incredible journey is that of Lokesh Kumar, a 29-year-old Swiggy delivery guy, who recently found himself in an astonishing turn of events that led him to become a vital support staff member for the Netherlands Cricket Team. This compelling narrative serves as a testament to the power of perseverance and the extraordinary opportunities that can arise when talent meets opportunity.
On an ordinary Monday, while Lokesh Kumar was diligently delivering food for Swiggy, little did he know that destiny had something extraordinary in store for him. The twist in his life’s story came when he was selected as the net bowler for the Dutch cricket team as they geared up for the World Cup. This remarkable transition from a delivery person to an integral part of an international cricket team is a testament to Lokesh’s dedication and cricketing prowess.
Lokesh Kumar had been working with Swiggy for the past four years, dedicating himself to his job while nurturing his passion for cricket. His journey to becoming a net bowler for the Dutch team began when the Netherlands Cricket Team posted an advertisement on social media, seeking talented net bowlers to prepare for the spin test ahead of the World Cup. This simple advertisement marked the beginning of Lokesh’s incredible transformation.
The selection process was highly competitive, with around 10,000 applicants vying for the coveted position of net bowler. Applicants were required to submit a video via WhatsApp, showcasing their bowling skills. Among this massive pool of talent, Lokesh Kumar’s video caught the eye of the Dutch team’s selectors. His left-arm Chinaman deliveries and unique bowling style impressed them, making him the ideal candidate to help the team prepare for the challenges of Indian spin-friendly pitches during the World Cup.

For Lokesh Kumar, being chosen as a net bowler for the Netherlands Cricket Team was a dream come true. Overwhelmed by this incredible opportunity, he expressed his gratitude towards the Dutch team, saying, “This is one of the most precious moments of my career. I am yet to even play in the TNCA third-division league. I played in the fifth division for four years, and I have registered for the fourth-division outfit Indian Oil (RO) S&RC for the ongoing season. After being picked by the Netherlands as a net bowler, I feel that my talent has finally been recognized.”
Lokesh Kumar was not only selected but also warmly embraced by the Netherlands team members. An induction ceremony was held for the net bowlers before the start of the training sessions, where the players conveyed a sense of belonging to Lokesh and his fellow net bowlers. “The players told us: ‘Feel free, this is your team.’ I already feel that I am part of the Dutch family,” Lokesh added with enthusiasm.
One might wonder how delivering food for Swiggy played a role in Lokesh’s cricketing journey. Interestingly, working as a Swiggy executive indirectly contributed to his growth as a cricketer. Following his college years, Lokesh’s primary focus was on cricket. However, when things didn’t progress as expected after 2018, he took up the delivery job at Swiggy.
