“Simply An Ego Clash” – LSG Official Revealed Details Of Ugly Spat Between Virat Kohli And Gautam Gambhir

The low-scoring thriller between Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) and Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow on Monday ended on a controversial note as the fans witnessed a war of words between Gautam Gambhir and Virat Kohli.

During the game, Virat Kohli had an altercation with Naveen-ul-Haq, with words being said to each other by both cricketers. The fight didn’t end there and took an ugly turn during the post-match handshake between the two sides. Former cricketer Gautam Gambhir also had a heated argument with the Indian batting maestro.

Meanwhile, an LSG official opened up about the incident and called it an ‘ego battle’ between Gambhir and Kohli. The official also revealed that the owners of the Lucknow side had a meeting with the players and the officials at the ground after the fight.

Speaking to the Hindustan Times, the LSG official revealed: “It was simply an ego clash between the two greats of Indian cricket. There was nothing serious. It was just a spur-of-the-moment thing. It happens in such a high-tension game,”

He added: “There was no bad blood after the presentation. The LSG bosses did hold a meeting of the players and officials at the ground after the match,”

The BCCI has slapped heavy charges on the trio for breaching the IPL Code of Conduct on all three players. While Kohli and Gambhir have been charged 100% of their match fees, on the other hand, Naveen has been charged 50% of their match fees.

Talking about the game, RCB defended the lowest total in IPL 2023. After posting a total of 126/9 on the scoreboard the Faf du Plessis-led side made a brilliant comeback in the second half with the ball as they managed to restrict LSG to 108 runs, winning the game by 18 runs.
