India’s sensational bowler Mohammed Siraj delivered a witty response when asked if he expected to bowl twice in a day during the Cape Town Test. Turning the question around, he playfully inquired whether the journalist thought that would happen.
Mohammed Siraj’s Witty Reply on Bowling Twice in a Day in Cape Town Test
The second Test between India and South Africa at Newlands in Cape Town witnessed a frenzied opening day with a total of 23 wickets falling. South Africa, batting first, was bowled out for a mere 55 runs in 23.2 overs. Despite the Proteas staging a comeback to dismiss India for 153 in 34.5 overs, they concluded the day at 62/3 in their second innings after 17 overs.
During the press conference after the opening day’s play, Siraj faced a question about whether he anticipated bowling twice in a day.
“Did you think so?” he replied in a light-hearted tone. He added: “We didn’t think also. We had put our feet up but this is cricket. You see both good and bad things,”
Mohammed Siraj stood out as India’s top performer with the ball, achieving career-best Test figures of 6/15. Reflecting on his remarkable bowling display, he humorously remarked:
“You want the New Year to go well.”
The 29-year-old also praised senior pacer Jasprit Bumrah and wicketkeeper-batter KL Rahul for their continual insights on the field. He explained:
“When senior bowler is operating and there is wicketkeeper who advises you on what is the correct length, job becomes easier as there is lot of communication. When you are hit for 4-5 boundaries, you know what length to switch to,”

Mohammed Siraj initiated an impressive start for India with the ball, swiftly dismissing Aiden Markram (2) and Dean Elgar (4). He continued his stellar performance by claiming the wickets of Tony de Zorzi (2), David Bedingham (12), Marco Jansen (0), and Kyle Verreynne (15), ultimately concluding with a remarkable six-wicket haul.
With 23 wickets falling on the opening day, the question of the ideal chaseable score naturally surfaced during the press conference. Although Siraj avoided giving a direct response, he acknowledged the importance of preventing South Africa from building a significant lead. He said:
“I can’t predict what will happen on second day. We have to get them out for as less as possible and we don’t need to think too far as we are still 40 runs ahead and we have to see how many [wickets] we can get before they take lead,”
