Pakistan Is Almost Out Of The World Cup 2023: Sourav Ganguly

Former Indian captain Sourav Ganguly feels Pakistan are highly unlikely to make it to the semi-final of the ongoing World Cup 2023. The former BCCI President opined that it’s going to be very difficult for Babar Azam’s team to lift themselves up from the kind of thrashing they got from India in Ahmedabad.

Pakistan were bowled out for 191 runs at the Narendra Modi Stadium, suffering an epic collapse from 155/2 to 191 all out. Then, Rohit Sharma annihilated their bowling attack, smashing 86 runs in 63 balls to all but kill the chase.

Sourav Ganguly compared Babar Azam’s team to the ones he played against in the 90s and 2000s, saying that the current version of Pakistan’s side is nowhere near to matching the ones he played against.

Even though it’s been only 3 matches that they have played, Sourav Ganguly believes Pakistan are unlikely to reach the semis.

“During our time Pakistan was a different team, this is not the type of Pakistan team we used to play. This team can’t handle the pressure during the batting. It will be hard for Pakistan to come back in this World Cup with this batting,” Sourav Ganguly said, as quoted by Times Of India.

The former BCCI President lavished praise on India captain and opener Rohit Sharma, for his sensational knock which included 6 fours and 6 sixes. Rohit took the attack from the first ball as he smashed Shaheen Afridi for a four and then went on to attack all the Pakistani bowlers.

India’s bowlers bowled out both Australia and Pakistan and took 8 Afghanistan wickets on a batting-friendly pitch in Delhi.

Ganguly is pleased to see India excelling in all three departments in the tournament so far. He reckons Rohit Sharma’s side is peaking at the right moment.

“Rohit played superbly against Pakistan. India’s every department is doing well. Batting, bowling and fielding is firing together and at the right time,” the former opener added.

India’s next game is on October 19 against Bangladesh in Pune.
