Young India and Delhi Capitals batsman Prithvi Shaw got trolled mercilessly on social media for his weight and physique after he uploaded a video of his latest net session on Thursday.
Shaw is currently recovering from a knee injury, and he is on his way to full recovery. He had a light net session in an indoor net, wearing the Delhi Capitals jersey. of which he uploaded a video on his social media.
Prithvi Shaw got trolled, criticized, and questioned by the fans over his fitness as his belly didn’t look in the shape that has come to be expected by an elite-level professional cricketer, not least a youngster who was expected to do big things for Indian cricket.
Former India head coach Ravi Shastri had once hailed Shaw to be a mix of three batting greats –Virender Sehwag, Sachin Tendulkar, and Brian Lara – when Shaw made his Test debut as an 18-year-old back in 2018. However, since the 2020/21 tour of Australia, Shaw’s career seemed to have gone downhill.
Prithvi Shaw last played for India in 2021.
While other young batters like Jaiswal, Gill, Gaikwad, and Kishan have risen to the Indian team across formats and have performed well in the IPL, Prithvi Shaw’s brilliance has only been seen in flashes in IPL and domestic cricket.
His off-field controversies – he got a suspension for using a banned substance, which he said to be a cough syrup; and earlier this year, he was involved in a legal battle with an Instagram influencer – and his lack of fitness – he’s suffered multiple injuries in the past couple of years, and his extra weight has attracted a lot of backlash and criticism – has hurt his case a lot.
