Former India batsman Gautam Gambhir attended an event organized by the Delhi police and gave a moving speech, boosting morale and thanking the policemen and policewomen for their contributions and sacrifices for society.
It was apparently the closing ceremony of a sports event, as could be seen written in the video that Gautam Gambhir posted on his Twitter handle, for the Delhi police.
Gautam Gambhir, who was India’s top-scorer with 97 runs in the 2011 World Cup final against Sri Lanka, has been a politician since 2019 when he joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and won election to the Lok Sabha from East Delhi. He has, though, continued to remain associated with cricket by being the mentor of Lucknow Super Giants IPL franchise in 2022 and 2023 and now returning to Kolkata Knight Riders for IPL 2024 in the role of a mentor.
The police are the biggest heroes of our country: Gautam Gambhir
Gambhir also has been dutifully completing his roles as a politician for the welfare of Delhi. In this event for the Delhi police, Gautam Gambhir was invited to speak. He asserted that the police is the real hero of India and thanked them for their sacrifices.
He captioned his speech as: “The truth is that you should not salute any leader or MP, we should salute you because you make the real sacrifice. @DelhiPolice”
In the event, Gambhir said, “I never understood and never will be that whenever an MP or a politician comes here, you guys salute them. Actually, it should happen in reverse: the politicians should salute you. No politician or Bollywood actor makes sacrifices like you do. The police couldn’t celebrate Diwali and Holi with their families so that the public could. You are the biggest heroes of our country, and your uniform is the biggest strength of our nation. I want to thank you all with my heart.”
