R Ashwin Talked About Ricky Ponting’s Spat With Virat Kohli In IPL 2020

Delhi Capitals’ star spinner R Ashwin recently revealed that a heated argument took place between the RCB skipper Virat Kohli and DC’s head coach R Ashwin when RCB and DC locked horns during the just-concluded IPL 2020.

During the second clash between RCB and DC, when DC thrashed RCB by 59 runs, Kohli and Ponting had a go at each other.

Well, the moment took place during the strategic timeout, when the RCB skipper was having a discussion with the on-field umpires when Ricky Ponting seemed to have something before the two engaged in a verbal fight.

Thankfully, the incident didn’t catch much limelight and didn’t erupt into a major controversy. Recently, after Mumbai Indians won the tournament, R Ashwin in his YouTube show confirmed the incident as he revealed that Ponting and Kohli were involved in a heated argument.

Narrating the incident, Ashwin revealed that Kohli and Co. weren’t happy with him leaving the field and when they questioned Delhi Capitals for the same, Ricky had given back to Kohli. He revealed:

“I had a back problem when I ran. It was a terrible pain. They took MRI scans and it was traced to a nerve pull to the back. I went off after bowling. And you know Ricky, he won’t leave any fight. And when RCB questioned, he said we aren’t like that etc. Heat of moment,”

During the same game, R Ashwin had also dismissed Virat Kohli for the first time in the Indian Premier League. Recalling the incident, Ashwin said that he loves bowling to the Indian skipper. He also revealed that Virat never takes chance against him just like the Chennai Super Kings’ skipper MS Dhoni. He revealed:

“I have always loved bowling to Virat. He would never take chances against me. Would not give his wicket; it was a matter of pride for him. MS Dhoni also, is like that. In Pune, 2016, I set him up with a ball outside off and it went really high and just as I was thinking, ‘Aaha, kohli wicket’, Ankit Sharma let the ball slip through his hands at extra-cover! Ai! What have you done!,”

Meanwhile, Virat Kohli and R Ashwin will now be seen sharing the dressing room for team India during the Test series in the upcoming tour to Australia.
