Rachin Ravindra

Rachin Ravindra is a special talent. For, you need to be really special to have, until this point, outscored the likes of Quinton de Kock, Virat Kohli, David Warner, and Rohit Sharma while playing his first ICC white-ball tournament in India.

Even though Rachin Ravindra is only 23 years old, and has featured in less than 25 ODIs, the youngster has already made a place in the hearts of the Indian fans, especially those in Bangalore, which is the home city of his parents and grandparents.

After helping New Zealand reach the semi-finals – only a miraculous mathematical possibility and realistic impossibility remains – with a win over Sri Lanka at the M. Chinnaswamy stadium, Rachin Ravindra visited his grandparents’ house in Bangalore. A beautiful, heart-warming video of Rachin with his grandmother has gone viral on social media.

In this video, Rachin’s grandmother could be seen performing a ritual to keep her grandson safe from any negativity in the air. Fans were pleased to see the young New Zealand all-rounder sticking firmly to his Indian roots.

Talking about his performances, Rachin is currently the leading run-scorer in the World Cup 2023. The left-hander has scored 565 runs in 9 innings at an average of 70 and strike rate of 108 with the help of 3 centuries and 2 fifties. Outstanding numbers for even a veteran cricketer, let alone a youngster playing in his first World Cup tournament.

Quinton de Kock, with 550 runs in 8 innings, and Virat Kohli, with 543 runs in 8 innings, are just behind Rachin.

After New Zealand defeated Sri Lanka by 5 wickets, and all but sealed their semi-final berth, Rachin Ravindra spoke with the broadcaster.

Rachin Ravindra said: “It’s a pretty surreal feeling. Playing in Bangalore with my extended family is always special and I won’t take for granted when the crowd chants your name. Lucky it all worked out. 6 to 12 months ago I was not in the frame. Accolades and individual things aside, good to be in the playoffs. I’m lucky to have come here through my teenage years, experience the practice wickets – helps me a lot. Nice wicket and fast outfields, try to adapt as best I can. Talk to Devon, talk to Kane who have played in the IPL, get golden nuggets from them whenever I can. “
