Indian spinner Ravi Bishnoi is relatively very new to the international scene, making his T20I debut in 2022. He last featured in a T20I match against Afghanistan in Bengaluru. He has played only one ODI game and is yet to make his Test debut for the Indian cricket team.
Bishnoi was retained by Lucknow Super Giants for the upcoming IPL 2024. Having been with the team for two years now, Bishnoi has become captain KL Rahul’s go-to bowler. Having played his initial seasons for Punjab Kings, where he took 24 wickets, he has further impressed in the last two seasons with Lucknow Super Giants, adding 29 more wickets to his tally. Overall, he has accumulated 53 wickets in 52 IPL matches.
Having debuted in T20I cricket in February 2022, Bishnoi has represented India in 24 T20I matches. His consistent performances across various conditions make him a strong contender for India’s squad in the upcoming T20 World Cup 2024 in the USA and the Caribbean.
Ravi Bishnoi Backed Rohit Sharma’s Captaincy
Meanwhile, in his recent interview with SportsTak, Ravi Bishnoi expressed his thoughts on playing alongside superstars like Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli. He expressed that playing alongside these legends of the game, whom he once watched on television, is a great experience for him. He said:
“Sharing dressing room with Virat Kohli bhaiya and Rohit Sharma bhaiya is big thing for me. The Legends when I used to watch them on TV & when Rohit bhaiya & Virat bhaiya appreciates you and telling you you bowled well, it’s big thing & very special for me”
Further, Bishnoi hailed Rohit Sharma’s captaincy, as he has played under him throughout his brief international career. He praised Rohit for backing players and revealed how he has been backed to the hilt by the Indian captain. He said:
“Rohit bhaiya always backs players and he gives full freedom – gives that security that a player needs. Play your natural game, I am there for you & don’t take any pressure”
Notably, Ravi Bishnoi has emerged as India’s primary spinner in the T20I format, effectively taking over the role, which was previously held by Yuzvendra Chahal during Virat Kohli’s captaincy. Following India’s T20I series win against Australia post the ODI World Cup 2023, Ravi Bishnoi ascended to the top of the ICC T20I rankings as well. He currently holds the 5th position in T20I ranking.
After becoming the New World Cup number one T20I bowler, Bishnoi said: “I debuted on February 15 and the journey has had its ups and downs but the last 1-1.5 years have been good since I got to play some good games, played in the Asian Games and Asia Cup as well,”
He added: “It has been that I got opportunities and when I do I hope to play well. This is more of the efforts from the last five years coming to fruition. Now after that, it has been good so far and I am enjoying it,”
Ravi Bishnoi will be next seen in action in the upcoming edition of the Indian Premier League, plying his trade for Lucknow Super Giants.
