India registered a thumping 4-1 victory in the recently concluded One Day International (ODI) series against Australia. India played tremendous all-round cricket and made Aussies look ordinary in all three departments of the game, in 4 out of the 5 matches.
After the conclusion of the series, India’s head coach Ravi Shastri addressed the media in a conference and praised team’s efforts throughout the series. He specially praised Rohit Sharma for his match-winning in the last match of the series.
“If you want to be rated as a good team you’ve got to be relentless. We repeated the job on multiple occasions and that is how we were ruthless in this series. Hitman (Rohit) did a superb job for us in the match, he was brilliant.”
Shastri also praised India’s bowling unit for their brilliant performances, specially Jasprit Bumrah and Bhuvneshwar Kumar for their brilliant death bowling.
“The death bowling is tremendous. It is all down to skills, when you have bowlers like these, they bring you back in the final overs. Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Jasprit Bumrah have tremendous, skills. That’s why we brought both of them back in the side. When we saw the track, it demanded skills. It’s a big ground and you might go for runs with new ball,” Ravi Shastri said.
When asked about Hardik Pandya, Shastri was all praise for the Baroda all-rounder. Team India’s head coach said that he hasn’t seen too many players strike the ball the way Pandya does against spinners.
He also gave a new to Pandya- ‘Dangerous guy’
“He (Hardik) is a dangerous guy. He can be a floater in the batting order — tremendous striker of the ball, especially when he hits spinners. I have not seen too many players strike against spinners like that. Yuvraj Singh in his hey days may be. This guy can clear any ground in the world, be it second ball, third ball. It’s the exuberance of youth,” Shastri said.
He concluded by saying that Team India can raise the bar in fielding and seize big moments.
“We can raise the bar in the fielding and we can seize the big moments. We also need batsmen to carry on after they score 60s and 70s, quite like what Rohit did today,” Shastri concluded.
