Ravi Shastri Hailed This MI Youngster Who Will Play For Team India Soon: The ongoing 2023 edition of the Indian Premier League has seen many young talents make a big name for themselves. From KKR’s Rinku Singh to Rajasthan Royals’ opener Yashasvi Jaiswal, all these youngsters have stolen the show with their amazing performances in the ongoing season. Besides, Jaiswal and Rinku, another young Indian talent that has impressed one and all is Mumbai Indians’ middle-order batter, Tilak Varma.
Tilak, who hails from Hyderabad, made his debut in the Indian Premier League (and MI) last year and stole the limelight from the word go. He has been amazing in the ongoing season as well. He started the season on a sensational note against RCB and ever since then there has been no turning backs for the stylish batter.
Tilak Varma is currently the highest run-getter from the Mumbai Indians camp, with 217 runs to his name from six matches. Impressed with his performances, several experts and former cricketers have backed him for his team India debut. In fact, speaking at the post-match presentation after a game against SRH, MI and India captain Rohit Sharma hinted at his India debut very soon.
Ravi Shastri backed Tilak Varma For Team India Selection

Now after Rohit, former head coach Ravi Shastri has also joined the bandwagon and has backed Tilak to play for team India in the near future. Speaking to ESPNCricinfo, Shastri heaped praise on Varma as he said that he has grown a lot from last season, where he scored close to 400 runs. Shastri feels that it’s only a matter of time before Tilak will be banging on the doors to enter the Indian cricket team. He said:
“The standout player is Tilak Varma. I said in the second or third game of the commentary that he’s an India player in the near future. He will be banging that door down. He’s got that all-round ability, not just to finish off at the end, but the clarity of thought as well. When he comes out to bat, what impresses me the most is his first 10 balls, he’s not afraid to take his chances and back his strength,”
He added: “Rohit said a very good line at presentation in this one game. He said Tilak doesn’t play the bowler; he plays the ball. He’s not worried about the reputation, in the sense that he’s not overawed. He plays what’s on offer, irrespective of the name, which is there for everyone to see. He’s got a wide range of shots, temperament, he looked very good last year, but he’s looking better this year. You watch for players who improve,”
