Ravi Shastri Made A Special Request To BCCI Ahead Of IPL 2023

IPL 2023: The Indian players will resume play in the 16th iteration of the Indian Premier League (IPL 2023) following their setback in the two-match ODI series (IPL).

On March 31, Gujarat Titans and Chennai Super Kings will face off at Ahmedabad’s Narendra Modi Stadium to start off the IPL 2023. India and Australia will square off in the World Test Championship (WTC) final, which gets underway on June 7 at The Oval, following the two-month-long competition.

Ravi Shastri Made A Big Statement On Workload Management Ahead Of IPL 2023

Rohit Sharma, the captain of India, earlier discussed how to control your workload before the IPL. Currently, former India head coach Ravi Shastri has added his perspective on the necessity of workload management. He maintained that because there is more cricket action now than ever before, the players aren’t getting a break.

I find it hard to imagine (increase in injuries). You look at era we played in, the facilities that were available at that time. You found players playing 8-10 years easily. Lot of them would play 8-10 months of the year. I really don’t know… probably the volume of cricket has increased, no questions about that. There are different leagues around the world. The rest period is decreasing,” Shastri told Sports Yaari.

The former cricketer-turned-commentator added that communication between the players and the board over workload management needs to be open and honest. The 60-year-old claimed that if a lot of cricket is being played, the board is in charge of providing the players with a rest. Also, he wished for the BCCI to speak out and inform the franchisees that “India needs them.”

“The establishment and players will have to sit across the table. You need that much cricket and you need to give certain break. Even if it happens to be IPL. Board has to take the stand there, tell the franchises, ‘listen, we need them. India need them. For India’s sake, if he doesn’t play those games, it will be good’,” Shastri added.
