List Of Replacements For Injured Players In IPL 2023

With less than two weeks to go for the start of the IPL 2023, a few of the franchises are fretting over the fitness of some of their star players.

As has been the case in the past few seasons, there are injury concerns among players and a few of them have already been ruled out of the upcoming 16th edition of the tournament.

The franchises have announced replacements of most of the players for IPL 2023 while other replacement announcements are still on hold.

Here is the list of the injured players and their replacements of IPL 2023:

Only RCB have announced a replacement for their injured players: England’s Will Jacks, who’d been bought by RCB for INR 3.2 crore, suffered an injury on the Bangladesh tour. RCB have replaced him with New Zealand all-rounder Michael Bracewell, who has so far had an impressive T20I career.

Rajasthan Royals

Fast bowler Prasidh Krishna has been ruled out of IPL 2023 due to a stress fracture injury. RR are yet to finalize his replacement.

Mumbai Indians:

MI have been two massive blows – fast bowlers Jasprit Bumrah and Jhye Richardson are ruled out due to injuries; Bumrah is out of action for a long time due to a recurrent back injury while Richardson sustained a hamstring injury in the BBL.

Delhi Capitals:

DC are also affected severely by injuries: after losing Rishabh Pant, whose knees are torn from the car accident in December, the fitness of fast bowler Anrich Nortje and keeper-batter Sarfaraz Khan are under a big cloud.

Nortje missed the second Test against West Indies due to “mild groin discomfort,” but it has been learned that the injury could force him to miss initial matches for DC while Sarfaraz, who was touted to take the gloves in Pant’s absence, sustained a finger injury and might also miss some matches.

DC are yet to announce Pant’s replacement as a player, though they have confirmed Warner as their skipper for IPL 2023.

Chennai Super Kings:

CSK’s 1 crore pick Kyle Jamieson is out of the tournament due to a back stress fracture and his replacement is not yet confirmed. Their 16.5 crore signing, Ben Stokes, recently picked up a knee injury, but has confirmed his participation in the iPL 2023.

KKR are fretting over the fitness of their captain, Shreyas Iyer, who missed the 4th Test vs Australia and the following ODI series because of a back injury. There is no update on Iyer’s fitness and availability so far.

Punjab Kings:

PBKS have been given a big blow as Jonny Bairstow is set to be ruled out of the IPL 2023 as Bairstow’s leg injury, which he picked up in September on a golf course, has taken longer than expected time to heal.

PBKS are still waiting for medical clearance from ECB on Bairstow. With the important Ashes series lined up straight after the IPL, the ECB might tell Bairstow to pull out of the IPL 2023.
