India captain Rohit Sharma has come under a lot of scrutiny recently following his recall to the T20I team for the Afghanistan series after a 13-month gap.
Rohit Sharma, who will turn 37 this April, resumed his position as the T20I skipper and is likely to captain in the T20 World Cup 2024 in June in the West Indies and USA.
However, the skipper has had two forgettable outings against Afghanistan as he bagged ducks in both innings. In the first T20I in Mohali, Rohit and his batting partner, Shubman Gill, got into a mix-up, leading to the senior opener getting run out. In the second T20I, he tried to smash Fazalhaq Farooqi on the legside but missed the ball completely and was bowled.
How many ducks Rohit Sharma has in T20Is?
These two ducks meant that Rohit Sharma’s tally of ducks in T20Is rose to 12, which is the most for an Indian batsman in T20Is and the joint second-most in the world.
The other senior India batsman who has made his return to the T20I team, Virat Kohli, has only 4 ducks in 108 T20I innings.
Who has most ducks in T20Is?
Ireland’s Paul Stirling currently holds the unwanted record for most ducks in T20 internationals with 13 ducks. Behind Stirling, with 12 ducks, are India’s Rohit Sharma, Rwanda’s Kevin Irakoze, and Ireland’s Kevin O’Brien.
Former Pakistan captain Shahid Afridi, a man infamous for getting out on naught, has 8 ducks in T20Is.
Meanwhile, Rohit Sharma will aim to bounce back strongly in the 3rd T20I against Afghanistan, to be played on Wednesday in Bangalore.
Rohit’s form has been really poor in T20Is. In his last 10 T20I innings, Sharma has scored only 159 runs at a dismal strike rate of 109. He has gotten out for ducks three times, and his only half-century in this period came against the Netherlands.
