Yashasvi Jaiswal regained his form just before the T20 World Cup 2024 on Monday, April 22. In the RR vs MI match at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium, Jaiswal played a stellar innings, scoring a match-winning century in the second innings.
Despite facing difficulties in his first 7 matches of the Indian Premier League, Jaiswal took his time and smashed an impressive unbeaten 104 runs to successfully chase down the target of 180 runs.
After the match, India captain Rohit Sharma warmly embraced Jaiswal, expressing his pride in the young cricketer. Jaiswal, who was vying for a spot as an opener in the T20 World Cup squad, had faced a challenging situation due to his lackluster performances in the first 7 IPL matches.

However, in the match against MI, Jaiswal displayed patience and composure, crafting crucial innings of 104 runs off 60 balls, ultimately steering his team to victory against Hardik Pandya’s side.
Legendary cricketer Brian Lara also praised Jaiswal for his remarkable innings, describing it as the youngster’s best performance in terms of approach this season.
“Yeah, it’s a beautiful innings by the young man. And, when I say, you know, you don’t have to be that aggressive, he still scores at a very high strike-rate. But the fact matter is taking his time, looking at the ball right close to the bat and he’s playing proper cricket shots,” said Lara.
Jaiswal will be aiming to carry forward the momentum from his century and put an end to his recent spell of poor form. Hopefully, his century will act as a catalyst for positive performances in the rest of the season. Currently, RR holds the top spot in the IPL points table with 7 wins and only 1 loss in their 8 matches. Following them closely are KKR, SRH, and CSK.
