Domestic cricket sensation Sarfaraz Khan recently received his much-deserving maiden nation call-up for India’s second Test match against England. After earning his maiden call-up, Sarfaraz expressed admiration for skipper Rohit Sharma, labeling him as his favorite cricketer globally.
Notably, Sarfaraz Khan is one of the three players picked by the BCCI to replace Ravindra Jadeja and KL Rahul, who sustained hamstring and quadriceps injuries during India’s first Test loss at the Rajiv Gandhi Stadium in Hyderabad.
Sarfaraz Khan’s selection has become a widely discussed topic. The Mumbai-born batsman has dedicated himself to the domestic circuit for years, working hard to showcase his batting prowess and catch the eyes of the BCCI selectors. Despite consistently impressive performances in the Ranji Trophy, the mystery of Sarfaraz Khan’s constant oversight persisted for many years.
Sarfaraz Khan declares Rohit Sharma as his favorite player

While it made sense for Sarfaraz Khan to be left out of shorter formats due to a crowded Indian team, fans were always confused about why he wasn’t part of the Test squad. Since his Ranji Trophy debut in 2014 against Bengal, Sarfaraz has amassed 3912 runs at an impressive average of 69.85, featuring 14 centuries and 11 half-centuries. Despite remarkable stats, his journey to the Indian team has been challenging. Now, the 26-year-old contends with Rajat Patidar for a spot in the playing XI for the 2nd Test, aiming for a breakthrough opportunity.
Meanwhile, in a conversation with Sports Yaari, Sarfaraz Khan shared insights into the Mumbai dressing room, highlighting the popularity of Rohit Sharma and his three double hundreds. Sarfaraz expressed admiration for Rohit, currently his favorite player, especially enjoying watching him execute the pull shot against bouncers. Khan said:
“Rohit Sharma is my favourite player – he has got very good pull shots, even in my dressing room, everyone talks about the 3 double hundreds of Rohit,”
The second Test match between India and England is scheduled to commence on February 2nd at Vishakhapatnam’s ACA-VDCA cricket stadium.
