Rohit Sharma Is Next MS Dhoni: Suresh Raina’s Biggest Praise After Bounceback Series Win vs England

Former India and CSK superstar batsman Suresh Raina has given the biggest praise for the current Indian skipper, Rohit Sharma, by hailing him as the next MS Dhoni following India’s brilliant bounceback series win over England.

Without a number of first-choice players, Rohit Sharma has led India to a 3-1 unassailable lead in the ongoing series against England after being 0-1 down after the first Test. India lost the first Test in Hyderabad but did superbly to come back to win three Tests in a row in Vizag, Rajkot, and Ranchi, and the fifth Test will be played in Dharamsala.

Speaking with Times Of India, Suresh Raina credited Rohit Sharma for Team India’s impressive comeback in the series and likened Rohit’s ability to bring the best out of the youngsters to MS Dhoni.

Raina said, “He (Rohit) is the next MS Dhoni. He has done well. He has been giving a lot of chances to youngsters the way MS Dhoni did. I played a lot of cricket under MS Dhoni. Sourav Ganguly supported his team a lot. Then MS Dhoni came and led from the front. Rohit is going in the right direction. He is a brilliant captain.”

Raina, who has worked with Dhruv Jurel, hailed Rohit Sharma for giving opportunities to Sarfaraz Khan and Dhruv Jurel. The two youngsters made their Test debuts in the third Test, and have contributed handsomely to India’s wins in both Tests. While Sarfaraz hit fifties in both innings in Rajkot, Jurel scored 90 and 39* in Ranchi and was excellent with the gloves.

“I want to give credit to Rohit Sharma. He first gave Sarfaraz the chance and then made Jurel part of the team,” added Raina.

India won the Ranchi even with Jasprit Bumrah rested.

“Rohit has been amazing with his planning. He has been giving a lot of chances to the youngsters. The way he is rotating the players is something I have never seen in the last couple of years. Whenever the fast bowlers came in the last couple of years, we have seen injuries. But Rohit has been managing that really well. Being a captain is not easy, especially when you are playing in India,” the CSK legend asserted.
