RR vs KXIP: A heroic effort by Sanju Samson and Rahul Tewatia saw Rajasthan Royals beat Kings XI Punjab in a dramatic fashion at Sharjah Cricket Ground on Sunday. With this win, Rajasthan has now climbed to the top of the table.
Earlier today, in RR vs KXIP everyone was looking forward to watching KL Rahul bat as KXIP took the field against Rajasthan Royals, but it was the other KXIP opener Mayank Agarwal who stole the show.
It was probably KXIP’s gameplan that Rahul would take a back-seat at the start and would try and play through the innings, while Mayank would try and go after the bowling and it paid off perfectly well for KXIP as Mayank just took the Rajasthan Royals attack to the cleaners.
The short dimensions of the ground helped as well, but most of the sixes hit by Mayank were landing way back into the stands and were measuring around 75 to 80 meters which meant he would have cleared any other ground with those shots, not just Sharjah.
The way Mayank was timing the ball, everything was coming off the middle of the bat, no matter what the bowlers were trying. Slower deliveries didn’t work either and the spinners didn’t get any sort of purchase from the wicket.
Rahul, in the meantime, got to his half-century as well and strengthened his position at the top of the run-scoring chart in IPL 2020. The KXIP skipper is the only player at the moment who has scored more than 200 runs in the tournament.
However, after Mayank and Rahul got dismissed, Rajasthan pulled it back a little bit in the last few overs, but so much damage was done at the start that KXIP just cruised past 220.
Nicholas Pooran deposited a couple into the stands towards the end of the innings to make sure KXIP goes into the second innings with positive momentum. However, they still ended up losing the game. The RR vs KXIP match turned out to be the best IPL match ever.
