After Sri Lankan pacer Matheesha Pathirana got hammered for 95 runs in his first-ever World Cup 2023 match, fans brutally trolled commentator Harsha Bhogle for his tweet on the youngster from earlier this year.
The 20-year-old Matheesha Pathirana, playing in his first-ever ICC tournament, had a forgettable day with the ball against South Africa at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi as South Africa piled up 428 runs, which is now the highest-ever innings total in the World Cup history.
It was made on the back of three centuries – from Quinton de Kock, Rassie van der Dussen, and Aiden Markram, who shattered the record for the fastest ODI World Cup century. Aiden Markram reached his century in 49 balls, breaking Ireland’s Kevin O’Brien’s record of 50 balls vs England in 2011.
After Bavuma got out in the second over of the innings, de Kock and van der Dussen forged a brilliant partnership of 204 runs for the second wicket. After them, Markram took over and annihilated the Lankan bowlers, including Pathirana, along with cameos from Klaasen and Miller.
This was the worst day for Pathirana in his short professional career so far. Not too long ago, he had become one of the favorites and loved among the CSK fans after helping CSK win their 5th IPL title under MS Dhoni in the IPL 2023.
Commentator Harsha Bhogle had then made a tweet about Pathirana learning under the captaincy of MS Dhoni.
“Sri Lankan fans, you might have got a gem in Pathirana. Dhoni is preparing him for you!” Harsha Bhogle had tweeted in April this year during the IPL.
This tweet, however, was brought up by fans again today after Pathirana got smacked by the South Africans.
Fans trolled Harsha Bhogle hilariously for his previous tweet on Pathirana:
