Legendary Indian cricketer Sachin Tendulkar came out in support of Indian bowler Mohammed Shami after he faced online abuse following India’s humiliating defeat against Pakistan in their opening game of the T20 World Cup 2021 in Dubai.
Babar Azam’s side thrashed the Indian cricket team by 10-wickets to break India’s winning streak of 12-0. The Indian cricket team was outplayed by Pakistan in every department. It was a historic win for the Pakistan cricket team as they defeated team India for the first time in the history of this game in any world cup event.
Ever since the defeat, the Indian cricket team has found itself at the receiving end of criticism and trolling on social media. Mohammed Shami, who turned out to be the most expensive bowler of the lot, giving away 43 runs in his 3.5 overs at an economy rate of above 11, has been subjected to terrible abuse on social media.
Following the big defeat, Shami was on the receiving end of flak from ‘seasonal’ fans on social media, who flooded his social media with distasteful comments and threats.
Meanwhile, legendary Indian cricketer Sachin Tendulkar has extended his support towards Mohammed Shami. Sachin took to his Twitter and backed Shami and said that when we support Team India, we support every person who represents Team India. He wrote:
“When we support #TeamIndia, we support every person who represents Team India. @MdShami11 is a committed, world-class bowler. He had an off day like any other sportsperson can have. I stand behind Shami & Team India.”
