Sanjay Manjrekar Makes Mohammed Shami His Next Target

Sanjay Manjrekar Questioned Mohammed Shami’s Spot In T20 WC Squad: The Indian cricket team is all set to lock horns with Scotland in their next T20 World Cup 2021 fixture tonight. The Men in Blue will be looking forward to clinching another win in order to better up their chances of qualifying for the semi-finals for the big tournament.

Ahead of the much-awaited clash, former Indian cricketer turned commentator Sanjay Manjrekar has opined that India should look beyond Mohammed Shami in the T20 format. Though, Manjrekar feels that Shami is a great asset for the Indian cricket team but he isn’t the best one for the T20 format.

Sanjay Manjrekar Makes Mohammed Shami His Next Target

India’s woeful start in the tournament has raised many eyebrows on the selection of some players in the team. Mohammed Shami struggled badly in India’s initial two games but returned back with decent figures in India’s third fixture against Afghanistan where he picked three crucial wickets to put India on the front seat.

However, Manjrekar feels that now India should assess their T20 team as there are some players who would aren’t that good in the shortest format of the game. He also claimed that India has seen enough of Shami and it is high time that other players are given the opportunity. He said:

“I think the time has come now for India to look at their T20 team and look at certain players and maybe assess whether these guys are better suited to playing some other format. Maybe there are some players in this T20 team who will add greater value or the best value that they can possibly add in one format and not be as good in the others. I am thinking about Mohammed Shami,”

He added:

“I think we have seen enough of Mohammed Shami to know that his greatest quality and where he’s a superb asset for the team is Test match cricket. The last time I looked, his economy in T20 cricket was 9. I know he bowled well against Afghanistan but India clearly has bowlers who are slightly better than Mohammed Shami in T20 cricket.”
