Shikhar Dhawan, the Indian opener has been receiving a lot of criticism lately. From fans to former cricketers, he has been receiving backlash from all corners. Many of his criticizers and cricket pundits believe that KL Rahul should be preferred instead of Shikhar Dhawan.
Shikhar Dhawan was struggling with the strike rate ever since he injured his thumb during his stunning century knock against Australia in the World Cup. Following the injury, Dhawan was dropped from the squad and was replaced by KL Rahul.
On the other hand, KL Rahul has been in a stunning form lately, the cricketer is giving back-to-back brilliant performances in the shortest format of the game and gaining praises from all corners. KL Rahul made most of Shikhar Dhawan’s absence from the game and two fifties in the T20I series and a century in the subsequent ODI series.
While Dhawan was looking rusty, KL Rahul impressed one and all with his performances. Considering the performance of both the openers, many former cricketers including the likes of Gautam Gambhir and K Srikanth said that India should look beyond Dhawan and consider KL Rahul for the opening duties.
Amidst all the talks and criticism, Dhawan made a stunning comeback in the team and was seen in a great form. During the third and final T20I against Sri Lanka matched Rahul shot for shot and formed a great partnership with him to shut the criticizers. Shikhar Dhawan scored 52 runs off 36 balls.
