Australian pacer Andrew Tye was far from his best in the BBL 2022/23 Final against the Brisbane Heat as he was the most expensive Perth Scorchers bowler on the big night.
At Perth’s home ground, the Optus Stadium, Tye returned with figures of /142 in his spell of 4 overs, as the Heat finished at 175/7 in the final, putting back pressure on the hosts.
Andre Tye’s only wicket of the match came in the last over of Brisbane’s innings James Bazley hit a low full toss straight to deep mid-wicket. There was little celebration from Tye as he knew he hadn’t had a good night, which got even worse as Xavier Bartlett smacked him for a six on the last ball, taking Brisbane’s score to over 170, which could prove just enough in the final.

Andrew Tye now has become the fastest bowler to 300 T20 wickets, going past the previous record holder Rashid Khan, who had broken the legendary Lasith Malinga’s record earlier.
A white-ball specialist, Andrew Tye completed his 300 T20 wickets in 211 T20 matches, breaking Rashid Khan’s record just by- Rashid had reached the 300 T20 wickets tally in 213 matches, while Malinga achieved this feat in 222 T20s.
Tye, who has played for over a dozen teams in his career, including 4 different teams in the IPL, averages a little over 20 in the T20 format with the ball, and is known for his death-overs specialty, which has gotten him gigs in the IPL.
Andrew Tye has played 32 T20I for Australia, between 2016 and 2021, picking up 47 wickets at 21.
His performances in the BBL 2022/23 – with 26 wickets, Tye is the joint second-highest wicket-taker in the tournament – could earn him a recall to the national side as Australia look to build a team for the 2024 T20 WC.
