All attention was on Shamar Joseph when KL Rahul chose him to start bowling in the match against Kolkata Knight Riders at Eden Gardens on Sunday (April 14).
Shamar Joseph, the West Indies bowler, finally got his chance to debut in the Indian Premier League (IPL) after not being selected in the playing eleven for Lucknow Super Giants’ first five games. He gained widespread attention earlier in the year for his exceptional performance with the ball during the Test series between Australia and West Indies.

In his Test debut, he made an immediate impact by getting Steve Smith out with his first delivery. In the following game at the Gabba, despite bowling with an injured foot, he took seven wickets, helping West Indies secure their first Test win in Australia since 1997. His remarkable pace caught the attention of many.
After his outstanding performances in Australia, Shamar Joseph secured his first IPL contract when Lucknow Super Giants signed him as a replacement for Mark Wood. The West Indies cricketer joined the Lucknow-based franchise for INR 3 crore.

Expectations were high for Shamar Joseph as he took the ball to bowl the opening over against Kolkata Knight Riders in the 28th game of IPL 2024. However, the debutant right-arm pacer couldn’t meet those expectations, conceding 22 runs in his very first IPL over.
Shamar Joseph began his IPL debut over with two dot balls but was hit for a boundary by Sunil Narine on the third delivery. Narine then took a double off the fourth ball. However, Joseph responded strongly with a brilliant delivery that left Narine clueless.
On the final ball, Phil Salt hit straight to a fielder at short fine-leg, but it was dropped, and a no-ball was signaled for overstepping. Initially, Joseph had given away only 8 runs, but with the extra delivery, he ended up conceding 14 more runs in his debut over.
