Shubman Gill is in the form of his life since last year. He had orchestrated Gujarat Titans‘ IPL 2022 title victory. Then he cemented his place in the Indian and team by slamming centuries in all three formats.
And now, in the ongoing IPL 2023 season, the 23-year-old is having his best IPL 2023 season. From having seasons of runs between 400 runs to 500 runs in the last three seasons, Shubman Gill has levelled up this year and has amassed 722 runs in 15 innings with 4 fifties and 2 centuries.
Shubman Gill is the future of Indian cricket. But is he a certain future of Gujarat Titans as well?
There might be a chance that Shubman Gill would decide to leave Gujarat Titans in coming seasons. Here’s why:
Shubman Gill would definitely want to be the captain in IPL
Hardik Pandya is 29 years old. So, if he continues to do well as skipper and all-rounder, Pandya could be leading Gujarat Titans for the coming 7-8 years.
This would overlap with the peak years of Shubman Gill. The youngster is currently in his pristine touch and would want to double it up with a captain’s armband and make a brand for himself as Indian cricket’s next biggest superstar. There are a couple of other teams like Punjab and SRH who have instability in their captaincy department. So the captaincy attraction might lure Shubman Gill into either asking captaincy hat from Gujarat and Hardik, or leaving GT altogether.
Shubman might want to play for his home state Punjab
Whether it’s Rohit with Mumbai or Hardik with Gujarat, earlier it was Sachin with Mumbai, Dravid and Kumble with Bangalore, Ganguly with KKR – leading your home city/state team in the IPL is a matter of great pride for any player.
The IPL is set to be become even a bigger brand in the world. And the fan-following will grow with it. Looking at Hardik Pandya choosing to go with Gujarat, his home state, over Lucknow, which was the second new team in the IPL, this could also evoke emotions in Shubman Gill to have a story with his home state Punjab team, Punjab Kings.
