SL vs IND: 3 Mistakes By India In The First ODI

SL vs IND: After a 3-0 whitewash by India in the T20I series against Sri Lanka, both teams faced each other in the first of the three match ODI series in Colombo. The senior players for India with the likes of Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer and KL Rahul were back. Sri Lanka won the toss and elected to bat first. They managed to score 230 runs in their 50 overs. On the other hand, India reached 230 runs for the loss of 8 wickets in the 47th over. However, they lost the remaining two wickets with one run to get and the match ended in a tie. In this article, we will take a look at the 3 mistakes by Indian Cricket Team in the first ODI vs Sri Lanka.

SL vs IND: 3 Mistakes By India In The First ODI:

1. Allowing Sri Lanka to score 230 runs after reducing them to 142-6

Indian spinners had choked the Sri Lankan batters in the middle and picked up wickets at regular intervals. It was a slow turner. So, a score around 220-230 was always going to be difficult for the Indian batters to chase under the lights in Colombo. India had reduced Sri Lanka for 142-6. However, they allowed Hasaranga, Wellalage and Dananjaya to score some much important runs and post a competitive total on the board.

2. No one in the middle order killed the game after Rohit Sharma gave them a fast start

Captain Rohit Sharma as usual gave India a fast start by scoring 58 runs off 47 balls. In a low scoring chase, he just relived the pressure on the middle order. The likes of Kohli, Iyer, KL Rahul and Axar Patel got starts but did not kill the game by playing till the end and finishing the game for India.

3. Arshdeep Singh’s all mighty effort to get a six when 14 balls were left

After Shivam Dube got out, India needed 1 run to win with 14 balls left and 1 wicket remaining. Arshdeep Singh came to the crease. He had ample time to play safely and look for the single to close the innings for India. Instead, he went for the all mighty heave on the leg side on the very first ball and got out.
