Rahul Dravid’s contract as the Head Coach expired and Gautam Gambhir has replaced him as the Head Coach. The first assignment for Gautam Gambhir will be the T20I series against Sri Lanka. Suryakumar Yadav was chosen as the captain of the T20I team.
Meanwhile, Riyan Parag, who made his debut in T20Is for India during the series against Zimbabwe, was picked in the upcoming T20Is against Sri Lanka. Captain Suryakumar Yadav and the team management wanted Tilak Varma in the team. However, the selectors had to go with Parag since Varma was injured.

TOI reports that Parag has improved his attitude towards the game. Moreover, he can bowl some overs and is a good fielder. Hence, he has been given the nod.
“Parag is highly talented and has improved his attitude towards the game by several notches. He’s now looking to stay at the wicket. To add to his value, he can bowl decently, and is a terrific fielder to boot. The selectors want to nurture him for the future,” a BCCI source told TOI.
India have fielded many young players and are willing to build a new team under Suryakumar Yadav and Gautam Gambhir for the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 in India. Gambhir had earlier stressed on the fact that the team needs batters who can bowl a few overs. Hence, the team management is looking for such players. Both Tilak Varma and Riyan Parag can bowl off spin and can contribute with some overs.
