Smriti Mandhana, Ishan Kishan Appear On KBC; Duo Got Stuck At A Question On Sachin Tendulkar

Indian men’s wicketkeeper Ishan Kishan and Indian women’s opener and vice-captain Smriti Mandhana appeared on the Christmas special episode of the quiz show Kaun Banega Crorepati (KBC), which is hosted by the legendary Amitabh Bachchan.

The show aired on Monday, December 25, and it seems to have been recorded weeks ago as Ishan Kishan was in South Africa this month while Smriti Mandhana was involved in two Tests against England and Australia, both of which India won at home.

The duo played very well and returned with prize money of INR 12.5 lakhs. They quit the game on the INR 25 lakh prize money as they couldn’t think of the correct answer and had exhausted their three lifelines.

Interestingly, both players got stuck on a question involving Sachin Tendulkar! It was surprising, because both have followed the career of Sachin Tendulkar and read so much about the Indian batting legend. The question was which player made his Test debut in the game when Tendulkar scored his maiden Test century.

Tendulkar notched up his maiden Test century in 1990, against England in Manchester, helping India save the match with his 119* in the second innings.

The options given to Mandhana and Kishan were Rahul Dravid, Anil Kumble, Sourav Ganguly, and Javagal Srinath.

The pair weren’t sure of their guess. So they picked a lifeline which allowed them to give one incorrect answer. In the first attempt, their answer was incorrect, but they got it right in the second attempt – Anil Kumble made his Test debut in the game when Tendulkar raised his maiden Test ton.
