S Sreesanth took a below-the-belt dig at Gautam Gambhir using Virat Kohli’s name following his on-field tussle with the left-handed batsman on Wednesday evening.
The fight between 2011 World Cup Indian teammates, Gautam Gambhir and S Sreesanth, during their encounter in the ongoing Legends League Cricket (LLC) in Surat has been the talking point among the fans since Wednesday.
Gautam Gambhir-led India Capitals defeated Parthiv Patel’s Gujarat Giants, for which Sreesanth played, by 12 runs in the Eliminator match, knocking the Giants out of the competition.
Tempers flared on the field between Sreesanth and Gambhir. In the second over of Capitals’ innings, opener and captain Gambhir smashed Sreesanth for a big sixer, followed by a superb straight drive four. After a dot ball, Sreesanth could be seen saying something to Gambhir as the batter looked on with a confused face.
A few overs later, Sreesanth and Gautam Gambhir got engaged in a fiery verbal battle, the video of which has now gone viral. It took both umpires and Giants skipper Parthiv Patel to keep the two away from each other.
Emotions are always running high, when you were very passionate about your game.

After the match, Sreesanth went on an ugly rant against “Mr. Fighter” Gautam Gambhir
In a video that he posted on his Instagram, Sreesanth said he was not at fault. He also alleged that Gambhir had had fights with his own Indian teammates in the past, including Virender Sehwag. The fast bowler alleged that Gambhir was calling him names. Sreesanth also, unnecessarily, invoked Virat Kohli’s name, with whom Gambhir has had a couple of on-field altercations in the past.
Check what Sreesanth said, and also watch the video at the end:
“Just wanted to clear the air with what happened with Mr fighter. One who always fights with all his colleagues. For no reason whatsoever. He does not even respect his own senior players, including Viru Bhai. That’s exactly what happened today. Without any provocation, he just kept on calling me something which was very rude which shouldn’t have been said by Mr Gautam Gambhir,” Sreesanth said.
“I am not at all at fault here. I just wanted to clear the air straight away. What Mr Gauti has done, sooner or later all of you will get to know. The words which he used and the things he said on a cricket field, live, is not acceptable. My family, my state, everybody has gone through so much. I fought that battle with all your support. Now people want to down me for no reason. He said things he shouldn’t have said. I will surely let you know what he said.
“What’s the point of representing people if you don’t respect your own colleagues? Even in broadcasting when he is asked about Virat, he never speaks about him. He speaks about something else. I don’t want to go further in detail. Just want to say I am very hurt and my family is hurt and my dear ones are hurt. And the way he said things…. I haven’t used a single bad word or a single abuse, nothing. He just kept on saying words which he always does,” Sreesanth added.
