Suryakumar, who walked in to bat at number 3 in place of rested former skipper Virat Kohli. He stitched a stunning 59-run stand with captain Rohit Sharma as the two helped the Indian team chase down the target of 165 runs. His stunning knock was laced with 3 sixes and6 boundaries.
Though, the cricketer played a match-winning knock, but he couldn’t finish the job for his side. It was Rishabh Pant (17 off 17 balls) who held his nerves and finished the game for team India in the final over thriller in Jaipur.
Later, after the match, during the presser, Suryakumar Yadav admitted that he wanted to finish the game but it will be good learning for him. SKY also joked how the dropped catch by Trent Boult was a perfect gift from his Mumbai Indians teammate to his wife on her birthday. He said:
“I would have loved to finish the game but that’s how you learn and move forward. About Trent, It’s my wife’s birthday also and it’s a perfect gift from him,”
He added:
“I have not been doing anything different, just being myself whatever I have doing since the last 3-4 years. I bat the same way in the nets and replicate the same in the middle. I try and put a lot of pressure on myself in the nets, for example if I get out I just try to come out of the nets and try and think what better I could have done and it really helps when I play in the middle,”
