The crowd had thronged at the M.Chinnaswamy Stadium to see their biggest superstar, Virat Kohli, play at the home ground of his IPL franchise in the third T20I against Afghanistan. They got to see him play, but only for one ball as Kohli registered the first golden duck of his T20I career.

Similar to his dismissal in the second T20I in Indore, Virat Kohli got out trying to slap-pull a short ball, caught at mid-off. Left-arm pacer Fareed Ahmad Malik claimed Kohli’s big dismissal that silenced the Chinnaswamy Stadium.

It was a short ball, angling away from the right-hander and getting big on the batter. Virat Kohli got into the position to pull, but it seems that the ball bounced a bit higher than the batter expected it to. and the ball scooped up after taking the upper splice of the bat. It was one of the easiest catches of his life for Ibrahim Zadran at mid-off.

Kohli walked back with his head down. Like the spectators at the ground, fans on social media were flabbergasted at the ‘KING’ being dismissed for a golden duck.

Fans came up with funny memes on Virat Kohli golden duck in 3rd T20I vs Afghanistan:

India, after electing to bat first, got off to a poor start, losing four wickets for only 22 runs.

This was not the typical batting-friendly pitch that the Chinnaswamy is known for; instead, it was a two-paced surface that also had plenty of turn. When batters of the quality of Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and Sanju Samson get their timing wrong, you know it’s really a difficult surface.

Teams:

Afghanistan (Playing XI): Rahmanullah Gurbaz(w), Ibrahim Zadran(c), Gulbadin Naib, Azmatullah Omarzai, Mohammad Nabi, Najibullah Zadran, Karim Janat, Sharafuddin Ashraf, Qais Ahmad, Mohammad Saleem Safi, Fareed Ahmad Malik

India (Playing XI): Yashasvi Jaiswal, Rohit Sharma(c), Virat Kohli, Shivam Dube, Sanju Samson(w), Rinku Singh, Washington Sundar, Ravi Bishnoi, Mukesh Kumar, Kuldeep Yadav, Avesh Khan
