Twitter Reactions: Fans Erupt In Joy As RCB Women Clinch WPL 2024 Trophy

Captained by Smriti Mandhana, the RCB women team ended the long wait of their fans to see the players in red lift a trophy. While the men’s team couldn’t win a single title in 16 seasons, the RCB women side has done it in the second season of the WPL.

Richa Ghosh carved Arundhati Reddy over cover for a four on 19.3 delivery of RCB’s chase of 114 in the final against Delhi Capitals to seal the match and the WPL trophy.

They had defeated Harmanpreet Kaur’s Mumbai Indians, the defending champions, in the Eliminator and now outplayed Meg Lanning’s Delhi Capitals in the final, at Delhi’s home ground, Arun Jaitley stadium, although the majority of the support in the 30,000-seater stadium was for the girls in red.

The saying among RCB fans of “Ee Sala Cup Namde (“This time the Cup is Ours”) ” has finally come to life. It has come true courtesy of the women’s team as they won the WPL 2024 final by 8 wickets. Netizens went wild as RCB finally got a title to show.

Meg Lanning won the toss and opted to bat first. Shafali Verma went all guns blazing by smashing 44 runs in 27 balls in an opening partnership of 64 runs in 7 overs. However, it all turned around in one over from Australian left-arm spinner Sophie Molineux, who took three wickets in one over to wrest the momentum in RCB’s favour.

From thereon, RCB put a strong chokehold over the run rate with regular wickets, also aided by poor shot-making from the Delhi batters. Leg-spinner Asha Sobhana took two wickets while off-spinner Shreyanka Patil grabbed a four-wicket haul, chiselling through the tailenders.

In the chase of 114, RCB were always there and thereabouts and kept the required run rate close to six runs per over. It never went out of hand and eventually, they gunned down the target with 3 balls to spare and 8 wickets in hand.
