Umran Malik was getting clattered for runs against the Delhi Capitals but the Sunrisers Hyderabad pace didn’t get deterred and bowling to his strengths: just bowl fast, bowl extreme pace. On Wednesday evening at the Brabourne Stadium, despite DC batters David Warner and Rovman Powell going guns blazing, Umran’s need for speed broke records.
The Jammu and Kashmir pacer who had already bowled the fastest delivery in the IPL by an Indian having breached the 154 KPH mark, now has gone past even Anrich Nortje and breached the 157 KPH marker to sit on the second place for the fastest deliveries bowled in the IPL.
In the last over of DC’s innings, one of Malik’s deliveries recorded a jaw-dropping 157 KPH!! This is now the second-fastest ball ever recorded in the IPL – with former Rajasthan Royals and Australia speedster Shaun Tait just ahead with 157.71 KPH speed.
Fastest deliveries in the history of IPL:
1. Shaun Tait – 157.71kmph.
2. Umran Malik – 157kmph (tonight).
3. Anrich Nortje – 156.22kmph.
4. Umran Malik – 156kmph (tonight).
5. Anrich Nortje – 155.2kmph.
Twitter went crazy as they drooled over Umran Malik’s intense fast bowling. Netizens wondered whether Umran Malik will one day touch even the 160 KPH barrier which only Shoaib Akhtar has cleared.
Here are some of the reactions on Twitter to Umran Malik clocking 157 KPH:

157 ks from #UmranMalik. That basically matched Javagal Srinath’s 157 ks v ZIM in the tri-series in SA in 1997!
One fine day it could be 100mph. I know he is going for runs today but scorching pace.#IPL2022

Umran Malik, the faster it comes the quicker it goes. You have amazing raw pace! 157 kph is not a cakewalk!
Get some variations and bowl the right lengths, you’ll be a champ!
Can he bowled 160 kph ? #SRHvsDC #UmranMalik #IPL #IPL2022 pic.twitter.com/IBSiTGdDdK

Umran Malik had another poor outing:

Although his pace is getting everyone excited, Malik has had control over his lines and lengths in the last couple of games. For the second game in a row, just after taking a five-wicket haul, Malik has gone wicketless and was expensive in both these games.
Against Chennai Super Kings, Malik returned with figures of 0/48 and versus Delhi Capitals he finished with 0/52. Some fans and experts feel that maybe Umran needs a rest for one or two matches.
