Former England captain Nasser Hussain picked the top 3 moments for England in their forgettable World Cup 2023 campaign.

England have had a disastrous World Cup 2023 tournament, adding to the list of a team not being able to defend their world champion crown. It’s one thing to not qualify for the semi-finals, but it’s quite an ignominy for the revolutionary England team to now be left struggling to compete for a place in the top 8 to qualify for the Champions Trophy 2025.

Ahead of England’s last league phase match against Pakistan in Kolkata, Nasser Hussain was asked to pick the top 3 moments for England in the tournament.

The first moment he picked was opener Dawid Malan’s century against Bangladesh in Dharamsala. Malan’s 140 off 107 balls in England’s second game of the tournament, against Bangladesh, for long remained the only landmark for the Three Lions to cherish in their campaign as they lost 6 of their first 7 matches.

“I will start with Dawid Malan. His magnificent 140 in Dharamsala. I thought he played brilliantly,” Nasser Hussain told ICC.

“When David Willey got Virat Kohli out for a duck”: Nasser Hussain

The second-best moment for England picked by Nasser Hussain was when David Willey dismissed Virat Kohli for a duck in their encounter in Lucknow. Virat Kohli skipped down the pitch and looked to hit a lofted shot straight down the ground, but Willey pulled back his length and had Kohli chipping to mid-off. The celebration from Willey, after dismissing Virat Kohli for a duck, told about his elation as the Lucknow crowd was left stunned.

“My second one is going to be at Lucknow when David Willey got Virat Kohli out for a duck. The silence around Lucknow when he chipped it to mid-off and walked off, was a special moment” Hussain said.

The third moment picked by Hussain was Ben Stokes’ century – his maiden ODI World Cup ton – against the Netherlands in Pune.

“Ben Stokes here in Pune, a brilliant hundred in what will be his last 50-overs World Cup we think. To get his first World Cup hundred and the way he played was quite brilliant” Hussain concluded.
