Virat Kohli Confirmed Rohit Sharma’s Opening Partner For ODIs Against England: Following series wins in the Test and T20I fixtures, team India is all set to host England in the final leg of their tour as the two teams will lock their horns in the three-match ODI series from March 23. Both the teams have already landed in Pune after the 5th T20I match and are now looking forward to the opening ODI match, which will kickstart at 1:30 PM tomorrow.
Ahead of the much-awaited 1st ODI match, the Indian skipper Virat Kohli took part in a press conference and confirmed the opening players for the ODIs.
During the conference, Kohli was asked about the opening combination for the ODIs, responding to which Kohli confirmed that there will be no change in the opening pair and Rohit Sharma will be seen opening the innings for team India along with Shikhar Dhawan. He said:
“As far as the opening combination is concerned, Shikhar (Dhawan) and Rohit (Sharma) will definitely start. They have been amazing for us in the past few years,”
Well, Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan have been the opening partners for team India in ODIs since the 2013 Champions Trophy, however, since Dhawan was dropped after the 1st T20I, there were doubts about their partnership. Also, with KL Rahul not being in his best form lately, the opening combination for the ODI became one of the most talked-about topics ahead of the 1st ODI.
Now that Shikhar Dhawan has been confirmed for the opening slot, KL Rahul would bat at 5 and do the finishing role. KL will also be seen fulfilling the shoes of the wicket-keeper.
