Virat Kohli Made A World Record Today vs KKR

Virat Kohli notched up another half-century – his 5th of the season in 8 innings – at the M. Chinnaswamy stadium today against the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), however, it went in vain as RCB lost by a margin of 21 runs.

This crucial, much-needed win for KKR snapped their 4-match losing streak and kept them alive in the playoff race, while for RCB, it was another bowling and batting problem as KKR mounted up 200 runs while their batting couldn’t hold up under the pressure and choked to the spin of Suyash, and Chakravarthy and the pace and bounce of Russell.

Virat Kohli fought hard with 54 runs off 37 balls. He got off rapidly but with little support around – RCB fell to 58/3 – he too had to slow down a bit in the middle and was eventually caught on the boundary trying to muscle one ball from Russell for a six.

En route this knock of 54 runs though, Virat Kohli attained a world record feat.

Virat Kohli now has the most number of T20 runs by a batsman at a particular venue: Kohli has scored 3015 runs at the Chinnaswamy stadium. No batsman in the world has more T20 runs at a single ground than Kohli at Chinnaswamy.

He surpassed the previous record holder, Bangladesh’s Mushfiqur Rahim, who has scored 2989 runs at the Shere Bangla National Stadium in Dhaka.

Meanwhile, speaking after the loss vs KKR, RCB captain Virat Kohli said: “To be honest we handed them the game. We did deserve to lose. We handed them a victory. We were certainly not up to standard. If you look at the game, we didn’t capitalize our chances. We dropped a few chances which cost us 25-30 runs. We set up ourselves really well. We ended up hitting the fielder to balls which weren’t wicket taking. It is what’s on the scoreboard and how to get them.

“Even while chasing, despite losing wickets we were one partnership away from being in the game. We needed one partnership to get us home. We need to be switched on and not give away soft plays. We have won one and lost one on the road. It is not something that is making us nervous. We need to win some away games to be in good shape for the later stages of the tournament.”
