On Monday, October 23, 2023, fans celebrated one year of India’s memorable win over Pakistan at the T20 World Cup 2022 at the MCG, and of the iconic straight six from Virat Kohli to Haris Rauf. Some fans have even hailed that shot from Virat Kohli as the Shot of the Century.
In a game that went down till the last ball, with India eventually emerging victorious by 4 wickets, Virat Kohli scored 82* in 53 balls to take India home after the team was struggling at 31/4 on a spicy, bouncy pitch.
Haris Rauf had been bowling well: in his first 22 balls, Rauf had conceded 24 runs and took the wickets of Rohit Sharma, the India skipper, and Suryakumar Yadav, the best T20 batsman in the world.
Virat Kohli then hit Rauf for a six down the ground and then for another six on the leg-side. In the last over, Kohli and R Ashwin took India home on the last ball.
A video has gone viral in which former Pakistan captain and commentator Ramiz Raja can be seen saying that if Rauf just bowls at high pace nobody can hit him down the ground. But Kohli proved Raja wrong, and the Ramiz’s statement became the stock for memers.
Ramiz Raja had said: “Haris Rauf se mai jab bhi baat karta hoon ki aap 150 ki speed se ball karte hain, apko variation ki jarurat nahi hai. Apke paas sheer pace hai. Uske upar he aap rakh de koi maai ka laal seedhi hit nahi laga skta apko.”

Interestingly, the Mumbai Indians Twitter admin brought out this statement from Ramiz Raja once again on the first anniversary of Kohli’s iconic six to Rauf.
Here, check out how Mumbai Indians roasted Ramiz Raja.
“Till today I have always said Mohali was my best innings, against Australia: I got 82 off 52 (51). Today I got 82 off 53. So they are exactly the same innings, but I think today I will count this one higher because of the magnitude of the game and what the situation was,” Kohli had said last year.
