Kohli hit an unbeaten fifty in the Sri Lanka ODI and since this is just the first of three, Kohli has enough chances to better his record. For now, he broke into the top three of highest run getters in ODI cricket for 2017.

Top three as usual:

Kohli’s 82 from 70 balls means that he is now past Eoin Morgan, into number three for highest ODI runs this year. Only Faf du Plessis and Joe Root are ahead of the man. Root has 785 runs from 14 games while Faf has 814 from 16 games. Kohli’s average of 96.1 means that he is easily on course to beat Root first, who is just 45 runs ahead.

Kohli will be featuring in a very heavy ODI schedule for the country, with series against Australia and England coming up. This means that he has more than enough chances to finish the year on an absolute high with plenty of runs and reaching the milestone of 10,000 runs soon.

2018 might be the year Kohli reaches the magical milestone and it is only a matter of time before he does so. Kohli has been a consistent performer for the country for so many years and deserves all the success coming his way.

Virat Kohli has time and again said that he doesn’t play for individual milestones. But, the way he is batting, he will soon break many records. It is almost certain that Virat Kohli will replace Faf du Plessis as the leading run getter in ODI cricket in 2017. It looks like a very interesting race.
