Virat Kohli Writes Congratulatory Comment For Mohammed Shami On Receiving Arjuna Award

Senior India fast bowler Mohammed Shami, on Tuesday, received the Arjuna Award in Delhi from the country’s President, Droupadi Murmu, in a ceremony at the Rashtrapati Bhawan. Shami is the 58th Indian cricketer to be conferred with the Arjuna Award.

The Arjuna Award is India’s second-highest sporting honor after the Major Dhyan Chand Khel Ratna, given by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports β€œto recognize outstanding achievements of sportspersons in the field of sports at international level”.

Mohammed Shami was honored with this award for his excellence in international cricket, most recently in the World Cup 2023 where he was the leading wicket-taker of the tournament, helping India reach the final.

Shami posted the video of him receiving the award from President Droupadi Murmu on his Instagram.

He captioned the video: “Today I am feeling very proud that I have been honored with the prestigious Arjuna Award by the President. I want to thank all those people who have helped me a lot to reach here and have always supported me in my ups and downs… thanks to My Coach, BCCI,team mates,my family, staff and big thanks to my fans..Thanks to recognise my hard work..I will always try to give my best to make my country proud…

The 33-year-old fast bowler’s comment section quickly filled up with congratulatory messages from cricketers, fans, and other famous personalities from different fields in India.

Shami’s teammates Virat Kohli and Shikhar Dhawan, too, congratulted the seamer for being honored with this prestigious award.

Mohammed Shami has said that he is optimistic of making his comeback in the upcoming Test series against England at home, starting January 25.

Shami is currently recovering from an ankle injury that forced him to miss the Test series in South Africa. He played in the World Cup – and picked 24 scalps at an average of 10.70 – while battling the pain in his ankle.
