Fans of Virat Kohli lashed out at the ICC for not picking the 35-year-old Indian superstar batsman in the ICC Men’s Test Team of the Year 2023. The ICC on Tuesday released their best men’s Test XI of 2023, which included two Indians, none of which was Kohli.
As expected, with their success of winning the World Test Championship, drawing a series in England and hammering Pakistan at home, there were six Australians in the ICC Men’s Test Team of the Year 2023. Pat Cummins is the deserved captain of this side.
India, too, had decent success with a home series win against Australia, an away series win in the West Indies, and a drawn series in South Africa. Spinning all-rounders R Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja made the XI of the ICC, but there was no Indian batsman.
The ICC has went with two left-handed openers, Usman Khawaja and Dimuth Karunaratne. Khawaja ended 2023 as the highest Test scorer of the year.
Williamson, who average 57 with 4 centuries, was picked over Virat Kohli. Steve Smith, the year’s second-highest Test run-scorer, but whose average was an ordinary 42 missed out, and so did Marnus Labuschagne. Joe Root, who averaged 65, and Travis Head, who averaged 41 and hit a century in the WTC Final, made the cut.
Alex Carey is the wicket-keeper, while Cummins, Starc, and Broad form the pace attack with Ashwin and Jadeja as the two spinners. Ashwin, who took 41 wickets at an average of 17, pipped over Nathan Lyon, who took 47 wickets at 24. Broad and Starc each scalped 38 wickets, while Cummins snapped 42 wickets.

Virat Kohli was the 8th leading Test scorer in 2023, with 671 runs at an average of 55, notching up two centuries and two fifties.
