Virender Sehwag is one the destructive batsmen in cricket history. Sehwag started as a lower middle order batsman but established himself as one of the best batsmen of his generation. Virender Sehwag played 104 Tests, 251 One-Day Internationals and 19 Twenty20 Internationals, amassing a total of 16,892 runs across format at an average of 40.60.
Virender Sehwag has been awarded the honorary life membership of the Marylebone Cricket Club on Tuesday (August 16). The membership is extended by MCC Committee to acknowledge the contributions of players to the game.
There are over 18,000 full members and 300 honorary life time members. John Stephenson, the MCC head of cricket, was pleased while making the announcement. Sehwag also led MCC’s side in the 2014 Champion County match against Yorkshire in Abu Dhabi where he scored 109 and 5, taking his team to victory.
“It is always a pleasure to welcome new honorary life members to the club, and Virender is no exception,” he said. “He was a wonderfully entertaining player throughout his career and has also represented MCC with aplomb in the past, so is fully deserving of this honour.”
