The legendary fast bowler Wasim Akram has aired his opinion on the debate among fans about the Indian Premier League (IPL) vs the Pakistan Super League (PSL).
Having worked with teams Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the IPL and Karachi Kings (KK) in the PSL, and having observed both the leagues since their inception, Akram made it clear that there is no comparison between the two, adding that while PSL is huge in Pakistan only, the IPL is huge in the world.
PSL is like mini-IPL of Pakistan: Wasim Akram
An iconic name in world cricket, Wasim Akram interacted with Sportskeeda where he was asked to pick one between PSL and the IPL, and he picked the latter. The 57-year-old promptly said that the PSL is only like a mini-IPL in Pakistan.
“IPL or PSL,” Akram was asked on Sportskeeda.
Akram replied: “IPL. I have worked in both. You can’t compare the two, IPL is huge. PSL is huge in Pakistan no doubt, it’s like mini-IPL of Pakistan”
But when he was to choose between Kolkata Knight Riders and Karachi Kings, he picked both.
This is how a few Pakistani fans reaction to Akram’s comments:

IPL, unarguably, remains the biggest, most followed, most competitive, and most lucrative cricket league in the whole world. The IPL 2024 auction made huge headlines as SRH pair INR 20.5 crore for Pat Cummins and KKR paid INR 24.75 crore for Mitchell Starc, both prices are even more than the winning team prize in IPL 2023 (INR 20 crore), and miles ahead of the winning team prize in PSL, which was INR 3.4 crore last season.
Wasim Akram, meanwhile, is currently in Australia, doing commentary for the ongoing Test series between Australia and Pakistan. Australia had won the first Test in Perth comfortably by 360 runs, but Pakistan fought well in the second Test in Melbourne, eventually losing by only 79 runs. The third Test will start on January 3 in Sydney.
