Former Indian cricketer Wasim Jaffer has stirred quite a debate on social media after India’s victory over Sri Lanka in the second Test match. Recently, he claimed that Pant can go on to become a better keeper-batter than the former captain, MS Dhoni.
Rishabh Pant has emerged as one of the finest talents in the Indian cricket setup. Though Pant started off his career under the guidance of the Indian captain MS Dhoni, he has emerged as a key player for the team in any format of the game. While MSD is known for his finishing capabilities, it will take a while for Rishabh Pant to reach the level of consistency.
Pant has impressed one and all with his batting exploits, which have been on the rise and he showcased it once again during the just-concluded 2-match Test series against Sri Lanka.
He scored a stunning 97-ball 96 in the first match in Mohali and then went on to score the quickest half-century among Indians in the following encounter in Bengaluru, breaking the record of legendary Kapil Dev. He scored 185 runs at a strike rate of 120 to win the Player of the Series award.
Addressing the same, former Indian Test opener Wasim Jaffer is confident that Pant will surely surpass Dhoni. Recently, during a Q/A session with ESPNCricinfo, Jaffer showered praises on Pant. He said:
“Yes, he can definitely become a better wicketkeeper-batter than Dhoni. At such a young age, he has already played some of the most incredible knock so in the coming 8-10 years, I feel he’ll be more mature and with more experience he can definitely be a better than Dhoni,”
Meanwhile, Pant will be seen leading Delhi Capitals in the upcoming 2022 edition of the Indian Premier League, which will kickstart from March 26th.
