When you are as big a superstar as MS Dhoni, sometimes your fans can twist facts to make heighten your stature. Not that Dhoni needs it, but his fans have been left exposed and getting plenty of flak for perpetrating the caption that “Matheesha Pathirana touched MS Dhoni’s feet before coming on to bowl during CSK vs GT game”.
Earlier, a video on social media went viral in which Dhoni and CSK fans claimed that Pathirana, the young Sri Lankan pacer, touched the former CSK captain’s feet before starting to bowl against Gujarat Titans at the Chepauk.
It seemed unusual and bizarre in the first place for a bowler – in particular not an Indian – to do this in front of the entire world.
Did Pathirana touch MS Dhoni’s feet?
Now, a couple of days after the game, a fan has released a video from another angle, which clearly shows that Pathirana was picking up the white-coloured bowling marker that was near MS Dhoni’s wicket-keeping position.
A fan posted this video on social media and slammed those who said Pathirana touched Dhoni’s feet to take his blessing.
“The Actual Video..Which Was Fakely Spreaded as Pathirana Touching Dhoni’s feet and Taking Blessing,” the fan captioned the video.

This was Pathirana’s first game of the IPL 2024 season; he missed CSK’s fixture against RCB in the opening game of the tournament due to an injury. He picked the wicket of Sai Sudharsan, the top-scorer of the Gujarat Titans.
CSK captain Gaikwad had hailed Pathirana as CSKās Malinga at the toss. Like Malinga, Pathirana has a slingy action and uses his variations; last season, he was a key cog in CSK winning their fifth IPL title.
CSK’s next match is against Delhi Capitals in Vizag on Sunday.
